Johnny Costa's
Price: Expensive•Italian•4.8(2,343)From the classic Italian music to the candlelit tables, the nostalgic atmosphere at Johnny Costa’s Ristorante feels like traveling back to midcentury times. It’s no wonder Frank Sinatra was once a regular at this fine Italian restaurant, which has been honored by Palm Springs Life as best Italian restaurant for 10 consecutive years. The Costa family continues the legacy of late chef-owner Johnny Costa, who was pals with Sinatra when he moved to Hollywood from New York in the 1960s, and a decade later served as the singer’s personal chef at his desert home. Costa’s pedigree lives on in his legendary recipes, including his classic cioppino. Open for dinner at 5 p.m. Closed Sunday & MondayMiro's Restaurant

Discover Palm Springs
As the desert retreat of the Rat Pack, retired presidents and five-star generals, Palm Springs retains the cool midcentury charm that drew yesterday's celebrities to play tennis, golf and swim. You might still spot a celebrity today eating lavender-flavored pound cake with basil ice cream on the patio of a former Hollywood star's estate. Great seafood is unexpected in the middle of the desert, but Palm Springs offers several excellent raw bars and fresh fish restaurants. Traditional Italian diners are another desert surprise, and you'll also find some wonderful pizza parlors in the area. Palm Springs is a place of hidden oases and patios, which conceal fresh, farm-to-table California food served by chef-inspired kitchens.
